Odin: The All-Father and King of Æsir

Odin, the father of all gods, was the King of the Æsir clan in Norse mythology. Renowned for his wisdom, knowledge, and association with war and death, he was depicted as a one-eyed, bearded figure. Odin also ruled Valhalla, the hall of the slain. The name “Wednesday” can be traced back to Odin, as it derives from “Woden,” a variation of his name.

Frigg: The Æsir Queen and Goddess of the Sky

Frigg, Odin’s wife, was the Queen of the Æsir gods and a powerful goddess of the sky. Associated with wisdom, marriage, family, and fertility, she was revered for her divination powers. Friday gets its name from Frigg.

Thor: The God of Thunder and Lightning

Thor, the god of thunder and lightning, is well-known today thanks to the Marvel Universe. The son of Odin and the strongest Norse deity, Thor wielded the mighty Mjölnir hammer and protected Asgard. “Thursday” is derived from “Thor’s Day.”

Loki: The Trickster God

Loki, a shape-shifting trickster god, had a complex relationship with the other Norse gods. Often mischievous but capable of causing great harm, he orchestrated the death of Balder, the god of light and purity.

Freya: The Goddess of Fate, Love, and Beauty

Freya was a powerful goddess associated with fate, love, beauty, gold, war, and fertility. She ruled over Fólkvangr and practiced Seidr magic, giving her control over desires and prosperity.

Balder: The God of Light and Purity

Balder, the son of Odin and half-brother to Thor, was the god of light and purity. Known for his kindness, wisdom, and beauty, Balder’s tragic death was brought about by Loki’s trickery involving mistletoe.

Hel: The Goddess of the Underworld

Hel, the daughter of Loki, presided over the Norse underworld. With half her body flesh and blood and the other half bones, she judged the souls of the dead and held great power within her realm.
