About Ancient Library

It brings together pyramids, temples, cities, settlements, tombs, caves, fortresses, and other places where the past is still visible. The famous sites belong here, but so do the places that rarely make the usual lists.

A map first

Every entry begins with the place itself: where it stands, when it was built, what survives, and how it fits into the landscape around it. The map is the starting point, not the whole story.

Evidence before drama

Ancient sites are interesting enough without turning every unanswered question into a secret. The articles separate what archaeology tells us from later interpretation, and they leave room for uncertainty when the evidence does not settle an argument.

A growing atlas

Some entries will be brief. Others will take their time. A famous monument deserves more than a slogan, while a lesser-known place can be fascinating without being dressed up as a mystery.

Ancient Library is made in Croatia by Ivan Petričević, with an unreasonable number of maps open at once.
